Project Overview
This project, based at the University of South Carolina Aiken, records and preserves the stories of US veterans of the Vietnam War. A total of 30 Vietnam veterans will eventually be featured on this website.
Currently in its second year, this project interviews ten Vietnam veterans per year. Our team is led by Dr. Sarah King (Associate Professor of History) and Dr. David Morris (Associate Professor of Emerging Media). A history student researcher, working with Dr. King, prepares for each interview through intensive study of the war’s history and oral history training. The history student researcher completes a pre-interview meeting with each Vietnam veteran before conducting the oral history interview in USCA’s Media Learning and Research Lab (MLRL). An emerging media student, working with Dr. Morris, records and edits the interviews using professional-level audio and video in the MLRL studio. The emerging media team also built the website and maintains the project’s YouTube channel.
This project has a planned three-year timeline (fall 2024–spring 2027). If you are a Vietnam veteran who is interested in being interviewed or if you have questions about the project, please visit our Contact page.
Researchers are invited to navigate to Veterans in the top menu and select military branch to explore individual veterans’ stories. Please also visit the Research page for access to the site-wide search tool and more information on navigating the site.
For information on our donors, please click “Project Support” in the top menu. Information on our team is available under “About.”
More features are coming soon, including a digital archive of primary sources provided by each veteran.
